"Americana" (1983) (David Carradine)
Tagline: "There's a dark horse in the American Dream."
The late David Carradine produced and directed this haunting minimalist drama about a wandering loner Vietnam vet trying to heal his psychic wounds through the act of repairing a dilapidated merry-go-round on the outskirts of a small rural Kansas nowhere town. Filming began in 1973 and continued intermittently over the years, owing to a combination of financial problems and Carradine's taking other acting jobs to help pay for it. It was finally completed and released in 1983. Unfortunately, while the film was shot in anamorphic Panavision (2.35:1) this P&S version is the best quality print currently available (taken from an OOP DVD release).
